Who is Malcom? Manchester United Plans £33 Million January Bid

Manchester United are considering making a bid for Bordeaux starlet Malcom as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new year, according to reports.

The Ligue 1 club wants £50 million from United but they are not prepared to pay any more than £33 million, according to the Daily Mail.

If the deal were to go through, the suggestion is that United would loan Malcom back to Bordeaux for the remainder of the season.

But who is the young starlet? Here, Newsweek takes a look at Manchester United's top target for the January transfer window:

Malcom, the 20-year-old Brazilian, was born in Sao Paulo and was developed in the Corinthians academy before making his debut in 2014. The striker scored seven goals in 51 appearances for the Brazilian club before moving to Europe.

He signed for French Ligue 1 club Bordeaux in 2016 and has been watched by Arsenal scouts on numerous occasions.

Malcom is only six weeks older than his countryman Gabriel Jesus, who moved to Manchester City in January last year and has helped the team to the top of the Premier League table. Jesus has scored 11 goals and provided two assists in 25 games for City this season.

According to the Daily Mail, Bordeaux has an agreement with Malcom that he can leave the club next summer but there is no release clause in his contract.

Mourinho is keen for United to do business in the new year as he looks to form a squad that is capable of challenging with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City. Guardiola's team is 13 points ahead in the Premier league table and beat United in the Manchester derby earlier this month.

City does not intend on standing still either as Guardiola is keen to bring Alexis Sanchez to the Etihad Stadium in January. The club is also said to be interested in Southampton center back Virgil van Dijk as well as wanting a central midfielder.
