In Pictures: Princes William And Harry Make Last Jedi Premiere a Special Night for Grenfell Fire Families

Families affected by the Grenfell Tower fire joined Prince William and Prince Harry at the European premiere of The Last Jedi at the Royal Albert Hall in London.on Tuesday (December 12).

The Royal Foundation—Harry, William and Kate Middleton's main vehicle for their charity work— invited the families along, as well as representatives of fire services and charities, to attend the premiere and meet with the princes beforehand.

It was a night to remember fo more than 400 young people, military veterans and volunteers who walked the red carpet alongside stars from the blockbuster film series including Daisy Ridley and John Boyega.

The palace said in a statement that the event "was an opportunity to recognise and celebrate people who have worked hard to change their lives and the lives of others."

Staff working for Coach Core, a programme that helps young people build careers in sports coaching, attended alongside military programmes such as the Endeavour Fund, which provides mentoring to wounded servicemen and women.

Before meeting their guests, Prince William and Prince Harry strolled past Stormtroopers before being greeted by a star of the film—droid BB-8.

Their Royal Highnesses also met members of the The Last Jedi's cast and crew, such as John Boyega and Mark Hamill.

They were also presented with their own Stormtrooper helmets before the screening commenced.

The royal brothers had cameos in The Last Jedi as Stormtroopers.

Speculation had been rife about their appearance in the movie since Harry and William were pictured at Pinewood Studios to the West of London last April, where much of the film was shot.

But British star John Boyega confirmed the casting in August, during a taping of The Hollywood Reporter's Actor Roundtable. While appearing alongside the princes might appear a nerve-racking moment, Boyega said the filming was more "fun" than scary. He added: "It was a great experience."

According to The Telegraph, the princes are part of a group who reprimand rebels Finn, played by John Boyega, and DJ, played by Benicio Del Toro.

The cast seemed excited by the royal cameos at the premiere. Oscar Isaac, who plays Poe Dameron, told Sky News: "That's exciting right? Let's see if it's true."

Earlier in the day, The Duchess of Cambridge heard the stories of families affected by the Grenfell Tower fire and gave out Christmas presents to children at a local community centre.

The Trust runs programmes to support children and their families affected by the tragedy, including homework clubs, sporting activities, tutoring and social groups.
