Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Have Released Royal Engagement Photos

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have released romantic photos showing the pair of them together in the grounds of Windsor Castle, to celebrate their engagement.

The snaps, shot at Frogmore House on the castle estate, were taken by Alexi Lubomirski, a New York-based fashion photographer.

Lubomirski said it was "a great privilege to be invited to share and be a witness to
this young couple's love for one another."

"I cannot help but smile when I look at the photos that we took of them, such was their happiness together," he said.

One of the shots shows the pair seated on a pathway in color, Markle leaning on the prince and dressed in a transluscent top with gold patterning, Harry in a blue suit.

The other is a more close-cropped, black and white image. It shows the couple in close up as they embrace, smiling, with Harry's coat closed part way around Markle's shoulders.

Markle, an actress from the United States, and Harry announced their engagement on November 27.

The same day, they gave an interview to the BBC. "It was just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet, and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee," Markle said of the proposal.

"She didn't even let me finish. She said 'Can I say yes,'" Harry added, "Then there were hugs and I had the ring in my finger."

Markle has since wasted little time in embracing official royal life. She accompanied her fiance on a trip to Nottingham on December 1, taking part in a royal "walkabout" with the public. She was praised by royal journalists for her natural ability with the crowds.

It was also recently confirmed that, uniquely for an unmarried royal couple, both of the pair will attend the royals' intimate family Christmas day celebrations at Sandringham.

Markle and Harry will wed on May 19, a Saturday, in a ceremony at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. The choice of a weekend date was another break with tradition for a couple already shaking up the monarchy as a cross-continental couple of whom one, Markle, is divorced.

The day is likely to mark the first joint public appearance for Markle and Prince William's wife the Duchess of Cambridge, when the family walk through the countryside to attend church.

The photographs follow two days on from Prince Harry's last major public appearance, when he was appointed Captain General of the Royal Marines, taking over from his grandfather, The Duke of Edinburgh, who has retired from most public duties.
