Leaked Photos Suggest Cristiano Ronaldo Will Win Fifth Ballon d'Or

Cristiano Ronaldo set another record on Wednesday (December 6) by scoring in every Champions League group game this year—but his week may be about to get even better.

Hours before the Real Madrid star scored in a 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabeu, photos of a new pair of Nike boots were leaked.

After another successful calendar year for Ronaldo, in which he won the Champions League and La Liga with Real, he is likely to be the favorite for the Ballon d'Or which is announced by France Football on Thursday.

The images, shared on social media website Instagram, show the words "Quinto Triumfo," which means "fifth triumph," inscribed in a pair of golden books

They also include Ronaldo's famous signature, his initials and his jersey number CR7, along with the years 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017. The first four years mark when Ronaldo was previously awarded the Ballon d'Or, suggesting he is in line for another trophy this year.

The Real Madrid president Florentino Perez believes Ronaldo, who was also named FIFA Player of the Year in London earlier this year, deserves the accolade.

"Ronaldo is one of our great symbols," Perez said. "He is the leading goalscorer in our history. A few days ago, he won his second 'The Best' and this week he is going to win his fifth Ballon d'Or."

Ronaldo's goal against Borussia Dortmund saw Real advance to the knockout stages as group runner-up to Tottenham and the German team drop into the Europa League.

Real were guaranteed a place in the last 16 as Group H runners up behind Tottenham Hotspur, but coach Zinedine Zidane still fielded a strong side for the game, only resting Marcelo, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

Real's Spanish striker Borja Mayoral got his first Champions League goal in the eighth minute with a chipped finish from close range while four minutes later Ronaldo struck for the sixth group game in a row, sending a wonderful curled shot into the top corner from outside the box.

Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang led a short-lived fightback by scoring either side of the break for the Germans, who have failed to win a game in the group stage campaign, but finished above APOEL Nicosia on goal difference to qualify for the Europa League.

Real averted a third consecutive draw in all competitions thanks to an 81st-minute strike from Lucas Vazquez to end their group campaign with 13 points.

They could, however, be without defender Raphael Varane for the next few games after the Frenchman limped off with a muscle injury.
